Hello, hola, bonjour, etc :). I'm a 21 year old African-American woman nicknamed Mimi. I am in my senior year of college, majoring and minoring in subjects unrelated to web/graphic design. Poetry is my anti-drug and as previously stated in the welcome message, I'm pretty random. Are you intrigued?

Divided As One

When it comes to being Black,
there are so many classifications.
There are some who are shaded a bit lighter,
and think that having a light complextion is the best gift in the world.
As if they sit on a throne and are some superior beings
Then there are those who are ‘dark skin’,
and still under the slave mentality and think
that they’re ugly as sin.
Thinking that being born dark is a curse.

Now there are some who have that “caramel” like shade–
The ones who are not too light nor dark.
Why do we continue to divide ourselves?
We know that Black people come in a variety of shades
But we still feel the need to treat some better than others..
Why must this be so?
We’re already looked down upon,
and depcited as stupid people who waste money on things we don’t need.
Things that won’t help us suceed in life, like the newest Jordans, or
them really nice rims, or the silkiest and longest weave.
Some tend to think that we’re people who are nothing but hos and pimps…
people who are blinded mentally with no intelligence what-so-ever.
So why do we add onto this ignorance?
Why do we satiate and quench the appetite and thirst of stupidity?
All human beings are created equal, right?
The color or shade of your skin doesn’t make who we are.
With all the racism and prejudice that’s going on in the world,
why are races trying to beat THEIR OWN race down?
Where’s the logic in that?
I’m tired of not being united,
no longer do I want to be divided as one.
