Happy Valentine’s Day to those who are celebrating! I know I have been slacking with the posts. Initially, I was busy with school. However, I’ve had a whole week off from school due to this massive snow storm we had. So, the lack of updates is kind of inexcusable. During the break, I spent a few days at my best friend’s house. We got on the subject of placing guys in the “friend zone” so I feel like this is an appropriate update for Valentine’s Day .

Why is it so bad to place a guy in the “friend zone?” It seems as though no guy wants to be deemed just a friend. From personal talks with guys, movies (500 Days of Summer <3), songs, etc., the friend zone has been given a negative connotation. It is something that guys look down upon. Now do not get me wrong. I understand that if you’re really interested in a person, you’re not truly interested in being just friends. The thing is, guys forget that just because a girl wants to be just friends does not indicate that she will never change her mind. There could be room to grow, you know.

I personally want to place guys there. I think the best kind of relationships are relationships that develop out of friendships. I want to be a guy friend’s first, rather than just immediately going on dates. That’s why I think I’m most likely to meet my husband while at school, volunteering somewhere, or at the workplace haha. I have learned that I am not really interested in dating first. I want friendship first, then build on that. I’ve spoken to a few friends and they, too, feel like this. Don’t immediately knock down the idea of being just friends with someone. It is not the end of the world. It could actually be a good thing.

Totally random: Glee won a Golden Globe award last night. I did not see it myself, but a friend texted me. I was so happy they won because I LOVVEEEEE that show. I have absolutely no problem admitting that I am a Gleek (see #7). I love Glee! I breathe, sleep, and eat Glee… okay, maybe that is an overstatement, but I do love the show. From the diverse cast, fun show tunes, good amount of drama, and hot guys (come and get it Puck ), you can’t go wrong with this show. Even if musicals aren’t even your cup of tea, you still probably will enjoy watching the show; it’s that good. What are some of your favorite shows? If you don’t watch TV, what are some of your favorite books?

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of girls on Facebook talking about this Nicki Minaj character. Everyone wants their last name to be Minaj all of a sudden. Everyone wants to be “harajuku barbies”. I did not know much about this woman, aside from knowing she’s a female rapper and seeing a few pictures of her, so I decided to look at youtube videos of her and read some of her lyrics. I seriously can’t fathom why girls would want to emulate her? Ladies, we have lowered our standards so much that we would rather be bad bitches than beautiful queens??! It hurts my soul that people actually look up to Nicki Minaj (heck, even Lady Gaga, Rihanna, & Beyonce for that matter). She SHOULD NOT be your role model. Find someone worth emulating or better yet- BE YOURSELF!!

That’s a huge problem nowadays. People don’t want to be themselves. They want to be followers and do what’s “in”? But, why? What’s “in” now may be old news next season! Then you’re going to have an identity crisis, right?? It’s just upsetting that some person who you don’t even know has so much of an influence on you- your style, your speech, your thoughts, etc. That’s some serious mind control right there.

… In other news (lol), I am FINALLY back and I hope 2010 will be an active year here at Doux Riens! I’ve added a few new layouts and two articles- 7 Essential Sites for College Students & What NOT To Do When Approaching Girls. Be sure to take a look =).
