I have only had paypal for a few months but I’ve learned a few things security wise. You may start getting e-mails that claim they are from PayPal but really aren’t. When you get those type of e-mails, forward it to spoof@paypal.com so they can help rid these phishers! Here are some things I took notice of when observing these fake PayPal e-mails:
1- In the e-mail, PayPal will ALWAYS address you as your full name that you gave them when you registered. If the e-mail doesn’t contain your name at all, it is FAKE! Report it, then delete it. PayPal will NOT send you an e-mail saying “Dear Paypal Member” or something of the sort.
2- Pay close attention to the e-mail address under the “from:” field. It should always be paypal@email.paypal.com or service@paypal.com. If it says otherwise, it is not real. Don’t click anything in the e-mail or your account may be tampered with!
3- Pay close attention to the e-mail address under the “to:” field as well. In the fake e-mails I’ve received, there’s no e-mail even given!! That’s surely a large red flag if you ask me.
4- If you receive an e-mail stating that your account has been limited or something similar, it is a fake, trust me! The only e-mails I’ve received from PayPal is when I’ve had a transfer or when there were special offers with PayPal.
